What is a Planned Community?

June 14, 2023

A planned community is a housing development designed to give residents unmatched levels of convenience and enjoyment. Traditional housing developments aren't always planned with residents in mind, making it difficult to access fitness centers, nature trails, and other amenities. A traditional housing development may also be located a farther distance from restaurants, grocery stores, and medical centers than desired.

That's not the case with planned communities. Architects, builders, and community planners work together to determine the best way to meet residents' needs. They don't just think about how big the houses should be or what kind of roofs they should have, but also about how to make it easy for residents to buy food, exercise, spend time together and commute to their jobs.

What Are the Benefits of a Planned Community?

Planned communities have many benefits, especially if you're tired of fighting traffic or having to drive 20 or 30 minutes to access a shopping center. Our Brookdale Community offers the luxury of living within very close proximity of Harris Teeter, Starbucks, restaurants, retail, and other conveniences. Some communities may offer various amenities such as event spaces, fitness centers, parks, pools, nature trails, and more. Instead of having to drive to the local pool or find a place to gather with friends, you can really get to know the people in your community.

Eastwood Homes’ planned communities have a blend of nature’s beauty within the community such as various green spaces, lakes, creeks, or streams. This sets these communities apart from a lot of new build communities that can feel denser than some home buyers might prefer.

Many people move to planned communities because they want to feel a sense of camaraderie with their neighbors. These developments usually have clubhouses and other gathering places, making it easy to plan a barbecue or organize a scavenger hunt. Children can even get together to do their homework or play games.

Finally, planned communities usually have less traffic than traditional housing developments. Planners think about everything from the best place to put roadways to how to minimize congestion. What Is a Master Planned Community?

Master-planned communities are large-scale communities with curated amenities, which means the amenities are selected to attract a large variety of people. For example, a community for fitness enthusiasts might have an on-site gym, a large swimming pool, and access to nature paths, hiking trails, or other fitness-related amenities. Family-friendly master-planned communities in Raleigh, NC, and surrounding areas for example have playgrounds, parks, amusement rides, and other attractions for residents of all ages. 55+ Planned Communities

What is a 55+ community?

A 55+ community is a planned community designed for active adults. To move to this type of community, at least one person in your household must be 55 or older.

Benefits of 55+ Communities

  • Amenities are highly accessible within the community to fulfill your hobbies and interests without having to leave the neighborhood. For example, some 55+ communities have golf courses, so you wouldn't need to drive to or pay for a membership at a local country club.
  • You have everything you need to enjoy your retirement while continuing to live an active life. These communities are typically built to include medical offices, restaurants, and shopping centers designed to appeal to people in this age group.
  • Many 55+ communities have security guards, privacy fences, and other safety features. Therefore, they tend to have lower crime rates, giving you extra peace of mind.
  • Exterior maintenance and landscaping are typically taken care of by the community so you won't have to worry about mowing the lawn or repairing damage after a big storm.
