What is a Blue Tape Walkthrough?

After the completion of a home, a buyer and a builder may conduct something commonly referred to as a blue tape walkthrough or inspection. This occurs after construction is completed and allows the buyer the chance to point out any problems, defects, or anything that needs additional repair before move-in day. Your builder, or maybe a representative of the building company, would add a piece of blue tape to any part of the house that still needs work, such as mismatched paint, faulty light switches, loose handles, and much more. This sounds like a great thing, so why would Eastwood skip such a seemingly crucial step in the move-in process?

The Eastwood Difference

When we say we don’t do blue tape walkthroughs at Eastwood Homes, that doesn’t mean you’re losing the benefits that come with having one. You’re still getting the same results – a beautiful home designed with precision – just without the hassle of having to point out everything that still needs work. At Eastwood, our builders make it possible to let go of any of these anxieties and trust that your home is in good hands.

While we may not conduct a traditional blue tape walkthrough, we still have plenty of quality checks in place to ensure your home is Built With Care. Prior to your Homeowner Orientation, the homebuilding manager will conduct a quality inspection and pre-closing walkthrough to catch any imperfections. It is at this time that builders will be notified of any changes they need to make before your final walkthrough. Since any last-minute corrections have already been addressed, you can now concentrate on familiarizing yourself with your new home and understanding how all the appliances and utilities operate.

New Home Orientation

Your Homeowner Orientation is the perfect time to bring up any questions or concerns you have about your home. A member of the Eastwood team will give you a tour of the house, explaining the function of each room. We will also show you how to use any appliances, how to care for finishes, how to operate or turn off any utilities, such as power, gas, and water, and anything else you may need to know before move-in day. If for some reason you do come across something you would like to be corrected by the builder, we will assess that together during the walk and make sure you are happy with the final result.

Our Process: The Steps To Building A Home

The homebuying process can be overwhelming, but at Eastwood Homes, we try our best to make it easy and approachable for you. Now that you understand the final walkthrough part of your journey, we want to ensure all of your questions are answered for our entire move-in process.

Here's a breakdown of the homebuying process with Eastwood Homes:

  1. Research & Chat: We are here to help get you moving toward finding your new home! Use our website, internet team, and social media accounts as a resource to choose your community and pick your favorite floorplans before visiting. It’s never too early to reach out to us.
  2. Visit & Tour: When you are ready, we will set up a time for you to meet with our on-site New Home Specialist who is trained to ask you the right questions that will help you find the floorplan and homesite that best meets your needs.
  3. Sign & Celebrate: Our preferred lenders have several financing opportunities that will best fit your personal needs and budget. You probably have lots of questions about buying a new home, and they are another great resource at your fingertips. This is also your opportunity to put the sold sticker on your homesite sign and celebrate!
  4. Design & Envision: Our Design Center Specialists have years of experience, making them another great resource as you choose the finishes and options for your new home. We’ll help you keep both your dreams and your budget in check as you make your design selections.
  5. Pre-Con Meet & Walk: Your builder will review your plans and selections for your new home and walk your homesite to discuss all the details, including the home's building process, during your pre-construction meeting.
  6. Wait & Pack: While you’re waiting for construction to be completed, you’ll get weekly updates from your New Home Specialist and Builder about the progress of your home. This is a great time to pack your belongings and plan your move into your new home – and be sure to check out our Pinterest boards for decorating ideas!
  7. Pre-Drywall Meet & Learn: Our home builder will meet with you before the drywall goes up, to review the components of your home, including electrical wiring and plumbing lines, so you can see how they work together. There will be a lot to remember here, but we’ll go over it again before you close on your home! Pro tip: Bring a camera so you can remember what’s behind the drywall, and where, after construction is finished.
  8. QI Inspection & Pre-Closing Walk: We’ve completed our #BuiltWithCare Quality Inspection of your new home, and most importantly, your home looks like the home you’ve been dreaming of! Your builder will revisit how the components of your home work together, and answer any questions you may have.
  9. Final Walk-Through & Closing: Just prior to closing, you will have another opportunity to visit your new home with your builder to ensure that everything is in exact order and that you are happy with your new home!
  10. Courtesy Visit & Customer Care: We’ll follow up with you after closing to make sure you are settling into your new home and that you are satisfied. Our Customer Care team is also available for you should you have any concerns!

We hope that this explanation made you a little less overwhelmed and a little more excited about the possibility of building your new home. At Eastwood, our builders make it possible to let go of any of these anxieties and trust that your home is in good hands.

Let us handle the building while you focus on making your new house a home.
