Taking "Built With Care" home to our community

Eastwood volunteers during RED Day

The team at Eastwood Homes recently unveiled our new Built with Care initiative and messaging. To us, Built with Care reflects our company’s culture of being a family-owned company with ties to the communities where we build. We care about those communities, our homeowners, our vendor partners, and our team members.

This week provided several opportunities for our company to show that our Built with Care initiative is more than a slogan. It’s who we are, and what drives us every day!  We are proud to cultivate a culture of caring and we are fortunate to have the opportunity to be involved in the community!

The Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte is our primary philanthropic partner, so when we were presented with an opportunity to sponsor a phone bank for Kiss 95.1’s “Play Anything Day” to raise money for the children’s hospital, we said yes! The Charlotte radio station raised $34,000 on Wednesday from radio listeners in exchange for playing their requests! We heard everything from the classics “Bust a Move” by Young MC and “Carwash” by Rose Royce to the current hit “When I See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth. But most importantly, we heard heartwarming stories from patients who are being helped at the Levine Children’s Hospital, radio personalities who were going the extra mile to raise awareness, and radio listeners giving their hard-earned money to help children. Thank you to everyone who donated in support of the Hospital and the patients who are being treated there! We played a small role, but we were very happy to do so.

On Thursday, members of our Charlotte sales team volunteered their time to help with Keller Williams RED Day. RED Day stands for Renew, Energize and Donate, and is the realty company’s annual day of service. We were excited and honored to take part in RED day with Keller Williams, and to give back to our community throughout the Charlotte metro area.

A group of 8 team members from Eastwood Homes joined forces with the Keller Williams Ballantyne team to paint 1,600 feet of fence around the perimeter of the YWCA in Charlotte. They also helped install 30 ceiling fans and add shelving to transitional housing there. This YWCA has offered a program for Women in Transition for 17 years, giving single women safe housing and support through services like job and budgeting coaching and computer training. An impressive 85 percent of participants successfully entered permanent housing after leaving the program.

Painting was also on the agenda for another Eastwood pair who teamed up with the Keller Williams Cabarrus and Rowan County Realtors to help with projects at Happy Farms in Salisbury. They painted a building at the academic tutoring center which serves more than 700 children in the summer camp program alone. Another 60 kids are enrolled in tutoring and after-school programs in the Western-themed “town” with a focus on teaching.

Two more of our team members joined with the Keller Williams Fort Mill and Baxter offices to help out at Renew Our Community outreach center in Rock Hill, SC, to help complete repairs, organize clothing donations, pack toiletry care packages and provide food. We have to give an extra shout-out to this Keller Williams group who also raised $10,000 for the ROC organization! Great job!

Giving back to the community goes beyond a mission statement for Eastwood Homes. It’s important to all of us here. Did you know that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of every Eastwood Home goes to the Levine Children’s Hospital? And, if an employee of the Hospital buys a home from us, we donate even more. We also provide the Eastwood Homes Hospitality Cart at Levine, which was introduced in the fall of 2008.  The cart circulates the 8 floors and family waiting areas of the Hospital and provides healthy snacks, reading materials, gifts, books, and toiletries at no charge to the children and their families who are staying in the hospital.

If you’d like to help us continue to raise money for the Levine Children’s Hospital, our biggest fundraising event will take place later this year during our 3rd Annual Charity Golf Outing. During the first two years of this event, we raised more than $100,000 for Levine’s! The 2015 outing will take place on September 28th and we would love to have you join us!
